The male cones are produced in the dwarf shoot; the cone has the central axis which bears spirally arranged leaf like structure known as the microsporophyll. In the lower side of each microsporophyll there are two spore sacs called microsporangia or pollen sac. The microsporangium encloses numerous diploid microspore mother cells. It then undergoes meiosis and produce haploid cells which secretes a wall around it and becomes a microspore or pollen grain. It is the first cell of male gametophyte.
