Some of the uses of green algae are:

  1. The microscopic green algae are usually nutritious like the angiosperm plants.
  2. Chlorella and Spirullina are edible green algae which are grown in mass, dried and made into tablets and consumed as a food supplements. It is important since these algae are rich in almost all nutrients, vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids and nuclei acid.
  3. Chlorella is used as the source of oxygen in space flight.
  4. Chlorella is also used for the treatment of sewage.
  5. The chlorella also yields the antibiotic chlorrellin. It’s also used in many physiological studies.
  6. Green algae are also used as biofuel.
  7. It can act as the indicators of water pollution.
