Gas vacuoles are found in many aquatic bacteria (some species of cyanobacteria) i.e., blue-green bacteria, blue-green algae, cyanophyta and green photosynthetic bacteria. Gas vacuoles are protein-bound structures containing air that allow the bacteria to control their buoyancy.
