The gametophytic generation is haploid and is prominent in moss. It consists of simple stem, rhizoids and spirally arranged leaves. The rhizoids fix the plant and also absorbs the salt and water needed for the plant and leafs produces the food for its existence. That is the gametophyte is a fully independent plant. After attaining the full growth the gametophyte develops sex organs at the tip of the stem. Then the gametophyte fuses to form the zygote which is the first cell of sporophytic generation. The zygote gives rise to the diploid sporophytes which is differentiated into foot, seta and capsule. The sporophyte is parasitic on the gametophyte where its foot anchors deep into the gametophyte and absorbs the nutrients.
