Fungi possess two types of hyphae:

Vegetative hyphae: They penetrate into the medium to absorb nutrients. Soluble nutrients are absorbed through the cell wall. Insoluble nutrients are digested externally by the secreted enzymes.

Reproductive hyphae: They play an important role in spore formation.
