The main advantages of micro propagation are:

  1. It is a large scale production of the micro propagules within a small space.
  2. There is no time lag since no need of waiting for the reproductive cycle to complete.
  3. A very small explant is only required to regenerate the entire plant.
  4. They are easy for distribution or for introduction as these micro propagules can be packed and transported internationally.
  5. The germplasm conservation is also possible.
  6. Since it is a laboratory process propagules can be produced throughout the year.
  7. Certain dioecious plant requires more number of plants of particular sex which can be easily produced by the micro propagation.
  8. The disease and pathogen free plants can be raised.
