The seed storage is the one important methods of conservation of the plant genetic resources. The seeds are stored in the gene banks to maintain the viability of the seeds thereby minimizes the frequency of regeneration. Some of the important methods and the maintenance followed in the germplasm conservation are:
-
Short term storage which is maintained at 18-20°C for the temporary storage of the seeds. These then are dried and successively transferred to the medium and long term storage.
-
Medium term storage which maintains an active collection of the germplasm.
-
Long term storage facilities which usually stores the base collection of the germplasm.
