Pneumatophores are spongy outgrowths of roots that facilitate oxygen absorption.
These specialized above-ground root extends above the surface of water are produced by plant growing in water (waterlogged soil)
It allows free exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen for the root.
Example: Black mangrove
