At the stage of interphase, when the cell enters in S – phase (synthetic phase) DNA synthesis takes place by the process of replication.

In this stage, DNA, RNA and even proteins are synthesized.

Therefore, this phase has high metabolic effect.

Here the replication of DNA and the synthesis of proteins (histone proteins), results in chromatin duplication in which chromatin strands turned into double.
