When normal cells are transformed into cancer cells they show the following characteristics:
-
Nucleus enlarges and has an irregular outline.
-
Number of ribosomes increase.
-
Mitochondria are swollen and irregular shaped
-
Nucleolus is also enlarged and has unstable number of chromosomes.
-
Cytoskeletal actin filaments decrease due to which the cell surface protein becomes mobile.
-
Golgi complex is poorly developed.
-
Cytoplasm has many inclusions. E.g. eosinophilic granules in leukemia, milk droplets in mammary tumour.
