Mycorrhiza is the symbiotic association of fungi with the roots of higher plants (Angiosperms and Gymnosperms). The fungal hyphae absorb nutrients from the surrounding soil and give it to the host plant. In addition to this, the presence of mycorrhiza accelerates the overall absorption of water and crop productivity. They produce certain growth factors and hormones that stimulate the germination of seed. They protect the roots from the attacks of pathogenic fungi.
