The explant is the plant part which is to be cultured invitro. The explants are always taken from the appropriate part of the parent plant. Such as the young parts of the plant of 2-5 mm in size are used. The explants are sterilized with 1-2% solution of sodium or calcium hypochlorite or 0.1 % of mercuric chloride solutions are used in order to maintain aseptic conditions.
