The process of encapsulation of the somatic embryos is also known as the production of the synthetic seeds. For the encapsulation, the water soluble hydrogels are used. There are two methods used for coating the somatic embryos; gel fixed by dropping and molding.

In the first method the somatic embryos of Alfa alfa are mixed with the sodium alginate and then dropped into the calcium nitrate solution. The surface complexation began immediately and the drops were gelled completely in 30 minutes. After encapsulation the embryoids are maintained aseptically in a cultured flask and are kept in the darkness for few weeks.

In the second method, the isolated embryoids are mixed with the nitrite TM. Then it is placed in the micro titer plate. As the temperature decreases the encapsulation become complete.
