It occurs in outer coats of seeds of many plants including cereal grains.
Thus, unpolished rice and foods made of whole wheat are good sources.
Pulses, oil seeds, nuts and yeast are good sources.
In animal food, it is present in liver, heart, kidney, milk, etc.
In animal tissues, it occurs primarily as coenzyme (TPP).
Thiamine is practically present in all plant and animal tissues commonly used as food.
The thiamine content in this food is destroyed with improper cooking.
